String keeps me calm. Well, string and a needle or two that is. If you have never tried crocheting I highly recommend it. For me it is one of the most relaxing activities to center and calm my mind. The feel of the string running through your fingers and the methodical steadiness of the stitches is very reassuring. I crochet whenever I can whether it is just to relax or to fill an empty space of time in my afternoon or evening. It allows my brain to rest and concentrate on something enjoyable instead of running thoughts and plans in and out of my head on a continuous exhausting loop.
This past summer I went on a baby craze and crocheted about ten baby blankets within a couple months. My boyfriend grew slightly concerned that I was implying something but I really just wanted to make something practical and being summer churning out scarves and mittens did not make much sense. I suppose hoarding baby blankets when you don’t have a child could be seen as impractical as well but I am planning for the future! I now have a giant plastic tub stuffed with baby blankets and little hats galore for that magical day when we are finally expecting our first little bundle of screaming joy.
Now that the weather is growing moody and dark and the chill of fall and winter is seeping through my sweater I am switching my focus to items to fight off the frosty air. I have been scouring the net for cute free patterns and will be sure to link them here for you in case you would like to try them out for yourself! If you have any crocheting tips or tricks please share as I am a self taught crocheter and love to learn new stitches and patterns.
