I went Vegan!… for real this time.
I went Vegan in September of last year but it only lasted a month. The inspiration? My boyfriend had been vegan for a year and loved it. He missed it and wanted to go back so I said I would do it with him this time. I was really excited and into it but after a month of trying his heart was not in it. So we switched back and had hamburgers and pizza haha!
Well ever since that month I thought and thought about it because I had really wanted to keep it up but did not think I had the willpower to stay vegan by myself and watch my boyfriend eat cheesy, meaty delicacies while I munched on rabbit food. I started reading books on factory farming and the food industry and so much of it turned my stomach that in December I resolved to go Vegan again even if it was all by myself.
I’m not an animal activist though I am an animal lover. I don’t think it is wrong to eat animals It just makes me sad how industrialized the food industry is and how much we are removed from what is actually going on. It is not only the maltreatment of the animals but also the unsanitary conditions of the meat products that are produced that bothers me. After some of the things I have read I look at meat and just think about how many germs and bacteria are on it and it revolts me. All things combined, I announced my decision to my boyfriend a week before Christmas. To my surprise, he said he was ready this time to join me in my diet choice!
Even though it has been a very short time, I am extremely happy so far. I feel great like I did when I went Vegetarian for a year. I feel like I have much more energy and I don’t feel weighted down. I feel lighter. It’s a nice fresh way to start the New Year even though it was not a new years resolution! My goal is to continue reading and learning and just keep reaching towards better health in my mind and body. What I put into my body is important and I want to be more conscious of it in future. Have you ever been or are you Vegan? Hot question: what prompted you to change your diet and lifestyle?
